I had the exact same issue (ipad 2, iOS 9.3.5) and think I found a solution: 1. On the device running iOS9, open Safari and use this link: https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?nojavascript=1 - this is an older account login page for google that I found. 2. Login using your google account details...
