Canon EOS M5 - Live View issues

Postby Roenick96 » Wed Aug 15, 2018 4:08 pm

Hey all,

Everything works fine except of the live view performance. The problem is that this is exactly what I wanted to have, so is there any way to improve live view quality?

By the way: the live view quality and speed inside the Canon App works fine. I am using an iPad Pro 10.5 inc which was sufficiently charged.

Thanks for helping!

You're welcome!
Hmm, what version of wifibooth are you using? Settings App -> Wifibooth will tell you. If less than 4.4.6, please update...

I just tried it with my iPad pro charged at 100% and the download of the pictures was super fast but the live view is still lagging. I have read all most of the other threads but found no solution for it. The problem is that I recently sold my Nikon and bought the Eos M5 (because it was on a special offer) and hoped that it works fine with it.

OK. If you are connected via your home/wifi network, you could try directly connecting to the camera and see if that helps.
Otherwise, here is the next step to try for me: get the app Cascable from the App Store (free) and tell me if its live-view performance is the same as wifibooth (ie. laggy) or same as canon app (ie. per your other post, good). With that info I can decide on a next step for you

Hi Tim, it is much better with Cascable than it is with wifibooth. By the way: I always connect WiFi of the camera directly to the iPad

OK thanks that's very helpful. Exactly which iPad pro do you have? Settings APP -> General -> About -> "model"

Thanks! I'm trying to think what the issue could be. In the meantime please can you try turning off animated GIFs (Event Settings -> Taking Photos), and tell me if that makes any difference?

Oh great!
Hmm are you using the trial version of the app? That downsizes the photos to 1800x1200...
Also: it should not be that the GIF option causes liveview lag, that is a bug. Would you be willing to try a beta build where I have hopefully fixed that bug? i’d love your feedback.

Hi Tim, yes i am using the free version but I am willing to buy the full package because I need it for a couple of events this fall/winter, but wanted to make sure that it runs smoothly first. Yes I would love to give you feedback on a beta version!

Wifibooth 4.4.8 was released to the app store today. It contains the fixes we talked about earlier in this thread. If you installed the beta, then please be sure to upgrade from the beta version to the App Store version. You can do this by going to the app store, finding Wifibooth, and installing it over top of the beta version. You don't need to erase the app.
