Slow capture and picture transfer (Sony A6000)

Hi Tim and everyone!

I am currently having new issues with wifibooth on my iPad mini 2 and my a6000. I tried using the app for a small, informal family event today and the lag time between pictures rendered the app nearly unusable (hourglass icon for about 10-20 seconds between each picture). Live view was also mirroring very slowly and freezing every 2-3 seconds.

I saw another thread from earlier this year saying to enable "alt cams lib". I gave that a shot and it improved the lag time between each picture but took very long for the collage preview to show (approximately 20 seconds). It also seemed to crash the "collage auto pilot" mode.

The part that boggles my mind the most is that I've used the app with the same camera with no issues (no lag between pictures and no lag for preview).

I've loved the app ever since I've discovered and would love to continue using it! Please help! Thanks for all the work you put into making this app awesome for all of us!

HI klephotobooth,
You are welcome and sorry it's not working well for you! There have been a lot of changes recently because of needing to support new cameras, workflows etc.

First, important: please turn OFF "alt cab libs" in Settings App -> Wifibooth. This is only for specific use-cases and will make the app considerably worse in most cases.

Can you please tell me which version of Wifibooth you are running? Settings App -> Wifibooth -> version is at the bottom.
If you see a version older than 4.4.7, then please update (App Store app -> Updates tab).

Once you have 4.4.7, please try again.
If the problem is the same: go to Settings App -> Wifibooth -> turn on the switch "Concurrency = 1". All other switches should be off. Did that help?
Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Hi Tim!

Thanks for the quick reply! Just double checked and I am currently on 4.4.7. I tried turning on Concurrency = 1 (with all other switches off) and restarting the app but the issue remains.

Hmmm. Also in settings app -> wifibooth, try these sets. Each time you change a setting, restart wifibooth.

A) on: live view prefers quality, concurrency = 1
B) on: concurrency = 1, liveview on main thread
Any luck so far?
Im not working today so can’t think precisely what tbis is caused by so am stabbing in the dark a bit

Just tried both sets. No luck still. The picture preview seems slightly faster by 1-2 seconds, but the hourglass after each picture is taken still remains for about 15-20 seconds.

Also, I'm in no rush as our family event is over. I would just like to help troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue(s) before the next family event! Thank you again!

Thanks for your patience. I'm going to buy an iPad Mini 2 today and play with it, see if I can get to the bottom of this.

OK I bought an iPad Mini 2, got a Sony a6000, and after a couple hours I think I found the problem.
I'd like you to try a new beta build tomorrow. I'll be sending you an email to the address you registered with the forum probably tomorrow. OK?
thanks

Hi Tim!

I was able to test the beta version and everything works great so far! Live view is significantly faster/smoother with minimal lags (no more or less than the Sony app). The time between pictures significantly decreased as well, taking approximately 2-3 seconds after each picture is taken!

Thanks for sorting out the issue! I'm assuming these fixes will be updated in the app store as well fairly soon?

Great! Now that i have your feedback i should be able to get this in the app store within a week, possibly by this weekend if apple approves it fast.

Awesome! This is a little off-topic; I can make a new thread if that would be easier for you. Anyway, while goofing off and exploring some of the other features of the app, I noticed that if email is enabled, the collages created with AutoPilot are not saved to camera roll (as a collage) unless an email address is inserted. When email is not enabled, every collage is saved to the camera roll as a collage. Is there a setting somewhere to save every collage regardless of whether or not an email is inserted (e.g. someone hits the [x] instead of submitting their email)?

Thanks again for all your help Tim! WifiBooth is easily one of my favorite apps to play around with and show off!

Glad you like the app, thanks!
Re the email/saving of collage: if the email action is selected (checked), then cancelling out of the UI that asks for the email address means that action is considered "failed", so the collage isn't saved; at this point you should still be on the collage screen. From the collage screen if there are any available actions then you need to complete at least one of them for the collage to get saved. So for example if print and email are the two available actions, doing either one of them would cause the collage to get saved

The thing I think that's troubling you is that you can't hit "Done" (beside the actions) when no actions are selected (checked) -- you'd probably prefer that one could hit Done in this situation right?
And also it'd make sense that if the email action auto-fires because it is the only action, and the user cancels out of the UI asking for the address, then the email action shouldn't be selected anymore (at the moment it stays selected)

.... addendum to my last message:
Wifibooth 4.4.8 was released to the app store today. It contains the fixes we talked about earlier in this thread. Please be sure to upgrade from the beta version to the App Store version, by going to the app store, finding Wifibooth, and installing it over top of the beta version. You don't need to erase the app.

Ah I think I understand now. So technically speaking, cancelling out of the email UI deems the action failed which then does not create the collage and I don't use the print function so then neither action is completed. I think I was interpreting the AutoPilot "collages" mode as a way to force save the collage each time a collage is created (after each set of photos taken). When I set AutoPilot to "Full" with neither print nor email selected/enabled, the collages autosave. But if email is enabled while AutoPilot is set to "Full", the collage does not save unless an email is inputted. Is there any way to save the collage without inputting an email? That way I would be able to upload all the collages taken to share all the event photos (I'd prefer to share the collages rather than individual photos because I think they look cooler  ) even if certain users do not want to type their email in?

P.s. Thanks for the quick update in the App Store!

At the moment there's no way to do that, but I will put it on the list of things to think about.
