Sony Alpha 6000 shutter release

Postby matze » Thu Nov 22, 2018 9:35 am

Hello!

First of all,I've tested the app with my Sony Alpha 6000 (using built-in Wifi) and am really excited! I really do like the app and want to use it for my wedding. Connecting the camera sometimes takes two or three attempts but then live-view, picture transfer, etc. works smoothly. There is only one feature that I am missing:

When I press the shutter release button on the camera, nothing happens. As this works with the Sony App (pressing the camera's release button directly transfers the photo to the Sony app), the protocol should have that capability. I assume this would be the same using a (cable) remote release.

The use case for this would be to connect a cable release to the camera, so that the guests do not have to walk to the iPad for every photo to press the release button.

Would it be feasible to implement that into Wifibooth?

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Matze

Hi Matze,
Glad you are excited!
At the moment this is not possible, but let me suggest a workaround if what you are after is triggering the camera from a hardware remote (not the ipad): grab a cheap bluetooth "volume-up" remote and pair that with the ipad. This just sends a "volume-up" signal to the iPad, which Wifibooth is listening for. Here's a cheap one that works well for me: https://www.amazon.com/CamKix-Wireless- ... ra+trigger

Great, thanks! That solves my issue, it's exactly what I was looking for. And it's even easier than using a camera remote :-)

You're welcome! It'll also work with your iPhone in the native Camera app if you're trying to get a good selfie ;)
