No liveview from Canon eos 80d

Postby thomas » Fri Aug 02, 2019 3:10 pm

Hi
I have a problem with wifibooth in connection with a Canon eos 80d, neewer studio flash and a canon selfie 1300 printer. Connection via wifi including flash works fine but I don‘t get the liveview from the camera on the ipad. Only when pressing the ‚camera‘ button I get the liveview.
Any hint?
Thanks and cheers,
Thomas

I think you might have turned off the setting "Liveview in background" -- check under Event Settings -> Taking Photos.

I don‘t see this option. I have turnes on
- live view (if supported by camera)
- Mirror live view
- Automatically rotate live view
- Live view on home page
and turned off ‚GIF‘

Hmm those settings are correct.
When you're not getting liveview (before you press the red shutter button on wifibooth) is the ipad showing a black view, or, is it showing a green background like before when the camera is connected?
Also, when you press the red shutter button does the liveview appear correctly on the ipad?
If you could make a video of this happening and post it unlisted on youtube, i'd possibly be able to figure out what is happening

Hmmm. If you change your camera settings so that the photo (with the flash) would be very overexposed, does the live-view come to life?
Ie. is the problem that the live-view is very under-exposed?

That's not the same: your camera treats live-view exposure differently when tethered (connected to wifibooth or the PC or another app)
Please try just cranking the exposure to see if live view does arrive.
Lots of people use Wifibooth with the 80D, never had this issue before.

What are the camera settings you are usually using?
ISO 100
F8-11
1/200
is what I try to.

When going to f4 I get a live view pic but still very dark.
Then when going to a longer time the live view is ok but not the photo.

Ok good that means it is the issue i mentioned earlier- you need to figure out how to tell your camera not to use the photo’s exposure for the live view. Usually that silent mode setting does the trick...

The solution is to deactivate the „live view exposure simulation“. This is disabled in the factory setup and this is probably why nobody came across this issue before.
Menu - camera - page 5 - Expo. Simulation: Disable

Next problem: slideshow
With both methods - direcly on smart tv and on apple tv - I get only the „connected to wifibooth“ screen on the tv.

In event settings -> general did you set it to latest photo or slideshow? Latest photo wont show anything until you take a photo. Slideshow will play what is in your gallery.
What are you playing the slideshow on?

I tried with both settings, last pic and slideshow.
Smart tv on a Loewe and a Samsung tv, Apple tv on the Samsung.

Works fine here with a Samsung Smart TV - first the "Connected to wifibooth" image shows, then later when photos are taken (using "latest photo" setting), they appear on the TV.

I'm not sure what's happening with your setup to your Samsung: if the "Connected to wifibooth" image does show, then Wifibooth is able to push photos to your TV successfully -- because that "Connected to wifibooth" is a photo too. Any other Wifibooth settings that you've changed come to mind?

... wait ... are you connecting directly to the camera's wifi? That would cause the slideshow to not work, because the ipad has no connection to the TV anymore. You'd need to connect the camera (via infrastructure mode wifi, NOT camera mode) to your router, and the iPad to the router too

No direct connection. All via wifi (and infrastructure mode). I have the same behaviour, when trying with the ipad camera only.

Little success though: I‘m getting the latest photo running via apple tv. But still no slideshow.

Hmmm. For the apple TV + the setting ‘slideshow’, what happens? No photo played at all?
Also can you confirm if you swipe over to the gallery that you see photos there?

It keeps showing the last photo before switching to the slideshow mode but no update anymore. Means when in slideshow mode from the beginning, the „connected to wifibooth“ pic, when changing from the „latest photo“ mode, the last photo before switching.
And yes, there are photos in the gallery already.

OK. Can you confirm for me that "Slideshow - Source" is set to "Photos" (not "collages", which would require that you have created & saved collages) ?
