I am currently using a TP-Link N150 to wirelessly connect my Nikon D5100 with my iPad. Would this setup be compatible with your app?

This link provides a decent description of the setup I am using - http://petapixel.com/2016/07/14/wireles ... r-less-40/

Yes this will work.
More importantly, the app is free to try with no limitations except watermark. So try it and if you have problems you can sort them out before purchase

Which mode would it work through? It doesn't seem to recognize it as a built in wifi.

Wait are you using camranger? I'm confused
Is your nikon d5100 exposing its normal built-in wifi or are you using some 3rd party product

Yes I read that page. I don't understand your network topology at all. The d5100 is only capable of other things connecting to it ie adhoc mode, right? So what is wirelessly connecting to it? the ipad or something else?

The TP link is connected to the D5100 via USB. And the iPad connects wirelessly to it through the qDslrDashboard app.

Ah ok. Sorry this will not work: I do not know what protocol your custom-flashed TP-link is speaking, but it is definitely not a standard.

Gotcha. Well I appreciate the prompt replies. Was hoping there was a way to configure the TP Link to work with the app. It's a handy little device. It would appear that the best alternative would be to pick up a mobi pro card. Thanks. The app is quite good.

Just for information's sake, I think this answers the protocol question. http://dslrdashboard.info/introduction/
