Remote trigger

Postby russmo » Tue Aug 22, 2017 7:49 pm

Can I use a remote shutter trigger with WiFibooth (or the camera's shutter button for that matter)? I would prefer if users don't have to touch the ipad screen to initiate shots. I was unsuccessful with remote triggering the shutter on my Canon 80D. Oddly enough, if I do gallery only mode, then photos triggered by the camera show up in the gallery. But there's no live view that way unfortunately.

Unfortunately that's the way it is at the moment: hardware triggers only work with gallery-only mode (well done on working that out!)
It's on my list to investigate this, but there are several higher priority issues in front of this.
You know the app on an iphone can cause the ipad running the app to trigger the camera, right? You could use an ipod for this too.

Hi Russmo
An update: can you please test this for me -- please turn OFF live view (event settings -> taking photos), and from the home screen where the red trigger button is, now try using your remote shutter trigger. Does this work?

I tried that this morning tim. With the 1300D and a radio remote, it did not trigger the camera in "normal" mode.

the Bluetooth remote buttons work great with other apps and are only a few dollars on ebay amazon. basically they send the up volume command to the iPhone/ipad. I know you mentioned in the past that this wasn't a huge priority, but it would also solve the issue of people wanting to use the rear camera of their ios devices since a cheap hdmi to lighting adapter cable and video hdmi monitor could be used to mirror the ipad on the other back side. just something to consider.

Hello,

I have a couple questions. Is it possible to have a camera remote, more specifically this one (https://alpinelaboratories.com/pages/pulse), to trigger the camera via bluetooth? Is it possible to connect an iPad to a camera (Canon Rebel /t5i) via bluetooth (on the camera hot shoe) and have the app trigger the camera connected to a studio flash and produce amazing pictures? That would be really nice.

Thanks!

Hi CCDawnPatrol,
Triggering real cameras connected to studio flash is what Wifibooth is all about! It's the reason I wrote the app in the first place.
Wifibooth connects to your camera using wifi, not bluetooth. Wifibooth doesn't work with the Pulse, that's proprietary one-off hardware speaking its own language. If you have a newer camera like the T6i with wifi built in, you can just use the camera and connect directly to the ipad. If you have an older camera like the T5i, then at the moment your options are limited... I am thinking about building in support for CamFi, which you could use with your T5i: http://www.cam-fi.com/en/index.html --> because it has an API I can develop apps with.
