Live View Problem

Postby Quagmire » Mon Oct 16, 2017 2:07 pm

Hello,

i build a photobooth with a Canon 70D and an iPad 2 (sometimes i hook up a Selphy 1200 aswell, but that isnt relevant at this point)
Everything works great, but if i turn on the live wiew option and try to take a picture the app freezes, camera doesnt trigger.
After about 20-60sec the app returns.

I assume that the iPad 2 is a little to old for this job?

Hi there,
Hmmm that is odd, that should work. The iPad 2 is indeed very old, but it should work.
Does the Canon 70D have "settings banks", ie. "sets of settings" ? If so, please could you try using a spare settings-bank, with camera factory-default settings? Ie. totally default settings on the camera.
I'm wondering if there is some setting on your camera that is causing it to behave differently than wifibooth expects.

Hi,

i did a reset of the wi-fi options but the problem is still there.
Secondly if forgott to mention that my studio flash (connected via Pixel-321) isnt triggering either if the live view is turned on.

(On Wifibooth 3.xx and iOS 8 both worked)

Hi Quagmire,
I'm not referring to a reset of wifi-options. I'm referring to a reset of ALL camera options. Ie. putting the camera back in the same state that you had it, when it was new. I'm guessing that since you had wifibooth 3.x, some settings on your camera were changed, and these are causing the issues. The reason i'm guessing this is because you are the only one who is reporting these issues, and I know that there exist settings that cause these issues.

To start: please disable "Silent Mode" on the settings of your 70D.

Hi,

oh my- there are 2.(!) options to set the a "silent mode".
The flash now triggers again. But the live-view is still laggy.

Glad your flash is working again.
Canon live-view isn't the fastest, but you could try a few things:
- borrow a newer/faster iPad to see if that helps
- move the camera closer to whatever is providing the wifi hotspot
- try connecting the wifi of the ipad directly to the camera ("camera mode" wifi). If that is noticeably better, then upgrade your wifi router / hotspot provider
