GDPR

Postby johannTBox » Thu Jun 14, 2018 4:10 pm

Hey Tim,

for Europe-user we really need a GDPR-compliant workflow. Very important are questions like: saving pictures, showing them in the gallery and saving them in the dropbox folder.

This picture can give a small hint on how another Photo Booth business does it.

GDPR is the reason you can force users to enter their email address, and customize the text on the email prompt. The expectation is that you change the text of the email prompt to something like, “by entering youremail address you agree to the privacy policy of my photography company at http://mylink and consent to your photo being taken etc”

If that isn’t adequate please explain why.

It’s not that simple anymore. Sadly now you have to let the guests tell you that they agree that the pictures are saved in the cam, in Dropbox and in the gallery. And all that before they make pictures. So either I will have a sign that tells them that but better Version I let them check off three points in the app.

Now with GDPR we have to ask you whether you allow us to:
y/n - Save pictures and make them available to the event owner
Y/n - show them in the gallery
Y/n - save them in an password secured online gallery

By the way is it possible to save the pics in an password secured Dropbox?

This all means that when they not check off f.e. The Dropbox point, the pics can’t go there...

I do not see it as the role of the app to get consent from the event guests. I think it makes more sense to communicate outside of the app to guests that usage of the photobooth implies consent for X, Y, Z, and if they don't want X, Y, Z, then they should not use the photobooth / the app.

I do see it as the role of the app to allow the event organizer / photographer to be able to configure the photobooth so that the highest number of consenting event guests use it. For example, you can turn on "only show most recently taken photos" on the gallery screen, so that only the most recent photos appear in the gallery. That option is there so that if that's required to get people to use the app, then it is available.

Re password-protected Dropbox, should work: you'll need a dropbox-professional account to be able to do this, but yes you should be able to configure the shared folder that wifibooth generates to have a password on it (on dropbox.com)

I am going to revive this discussion and suggestion for explicit consent within the app. For those of us using this to build brand awareness with clients, having an explicit consent element is still a good thing. A simple checkbox that indicates consent would suffice.

The same goes for the consent to post the images to twitter or not. Ideally we want the collages to go up to twitter and Facebook to generate further brand awareness from the event. But, I also want to be sensitive to those that do not want it. Currently it appears to be an all or nothing option when it comes to social media.

If they consent to the email, but not social media, then the app simply does not post to social media.

I think all that is being asked for here is a simple decision tree for the client regarding how and where they consent to the pictures being posted.

That's my two pennies worth. Great product still!
