New WiFi support for CamFi

Postby DMackie » Sat May 20, 2017 7:37 am

Hello

First thanks for a great app it was a big hit at a Roller Derby event I shot recently and worked flawlessly with my 6D

What would be awesome is if I could use my CamFi device on one of my 550D's instead.

This would give full remote support via the USB cable and make it so I don't have to dedicate a camera that I could be using with a shorter lens for walking about the event for candids.

I understand v4.0 is coming out soon so this is NOT a request to take focus off other features that are currently being developed.

Thanks again

Hi dmackie
Thanks for your feedback and especially the politeness of your request, really appreciate it ;)

I will email camfi and see if there is any documentation or an SDK that can be used. If not im afraid i wont have time to reverse engineer their custom protocol - this takes 3 months or so given how much time I have for wifibooth, and it isnt the best investment for the time: all new cameras have wifi. So over time as people's old cameras die and they get new ones, the result is that camfi, eyefi, etc are all going away. Because of this building new support for them now has limited appeal ...

Just revisiting in case you didn't get a reply from CamFi.

REST API info ...

http://www.cam-fi.com/sdk/sdk_restapi.html

They are also bringing out a v2 release in 2018 mostly for speed of tethering they say 10MB per second

Also Happy if you don't support these as I very intermittently set up an autopilot style booth but would still love to use my 550D rather than the 6D

Hi there,
Yes, CamFi is still on the radar! I have one (the hardware unit), and plan to investigate implementing the REST API in 1Q 2018.
There are 2 major features ahead of this on the queue. The reason this isn't highest priority is that it only helps older cameras (which by definition become less relevant over time), and, a lot of people use wifibooth with just the device camera.
