Beginners Help Please!

Postby Bumanchu » Mon Mar 26, 2018 12:20 am

First of all, thanks for creating such an interactive support system, just browsing the forum, it seems like you’re extremely active in helping, something I can greatly appreciate.

I have a few question. Getting ready for my wedding this summer, and trying to get a setup going. I have a 10.5” IPad Pro and I’d like to use my Nikon D7100.

A few questions on getting things set up:

-Which is a better system to use, the wireless adapter for the D7100 (wu-1a) or the eyefi card? Is there a preference on one system that is more stable?
-Our wedding is going to be in the outdoors. If a WiFi network is not available, would this still work? Are there work around? We likely won’t have cell service either.
-I’ m wanting to have prints come out, would the Canon Selphy CP1300 be a printer that would work with the system?
-Would all these systems work with a flash?

Any help and tips great appreciated!

Thanks!

Andrew B.

HI Andrew you're welcome, and thx for noticing ;)
So i'm going to level with you: i've found the Nikon WU-1a/b wifi so bad that it is basically unusable. It is a hardware design issue: the tiny little antenna in the tiny little WU-1a/b unit just cannot handle live view, and drops connection all the time. Eyefi is no better: super hard to set up, and doesn't support live view, triggering the camera, a bunch of other stuff. Also keep in mind that no nikon wifi has the ability to make an outgoing connection, or accept multiple incoming connections: so connecting a printer requires a 2nd iOS device with Bluetooth ala BluePrint, because the camera ties up the wifi.

If it's your wedding then i'd recommend renting or borrowing a Canon, preferably an 80D (has the ability to have liveview and the photo at different exposures, which is necessary if your flash-lighting is strobe ie. not constant lighting), or at least a T6i. Canons support connecting to other wifi devices so hooking up a printer is possible without faffing around with bluetooth.
