Hello everybody,
a quick search on the forum doesn't help me to get the information I look for.
so, here is my question : is it possible to pair and iPad and a canon 70D camera with the Apple USB camera adapter ? If not, is there any solution to pair with a cable (wire) ?
plus, would you recommend any basic router to use wifi infrastructure mode ?
Thanks a lot.
Alim
wire connection
Re: wire connection
Hi Alim,
Sorry no, Apple does not make it possible for a wired connection between an iOS device and a camera. The USB adapter they offer can only support very limited reading of files - cannot control the camera, do live view, or lots of other important needed things. That's why Wifibooth uses wifi.
For the router, it depends how mobile it needs to be. If you're looking for a portable unit that you can build into a box etc (so it can't get too hot), then I recommend the DLink "plug style" routers (a very old one I like is the DLink DIR-505. Not sure if there is a newer one, probably...)

Re: wire connection
An update here: Apple opened up USB access to cameras in iOS 14.2, and we have updated Wifibooth to use this (4.12.0).
If you have a Canon DSLR camera and your iPad has iOS 14.2, you can now use a USB wired connection to connect your camera.

Re: wire connection
Hi Tim!
I just saw that Wifibooth accepts USB connection for Canon Cameras. However, I have difficulties to make it work.
My configuration :
- iPad Pro 3rd Gen, iOS 14.4
- Canon 1300D
- USB-Hub : Hyper Drive (to have USB-A ports)
- USB A to micro-USB Canon Cable.
Wifibooth cannot detect the camera. Have I done something wrong? Thanks in advance!

Re: wire connection
The first thing to check is always the hub: please try without the hub.
You'll need a USB-C to USB-A/female adapter like this: https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-Type ... B01GGKYYT0

... update: the 1300D might disable usb when wifi is enabled. Try disabling wifi.

Re: wire connection
Hi Tim!
It works when wifi is disabled. Thanks for the idea.
Wired, it works very well, much more reactive than wifi.
FYI, the USB-C hub "HyperDrive POWER 9-in-1" works.

Just butting in to say holy crap, Tim, this new update is amazing. My crew and I are thoroughly excited for the dramatic reduction in awkward pauses between shots- big fan of your work as always! -Kaz

Re: wire connection
I see you said canon but what about Nikon?
Re: wire connection
Hi MrsFrizzle, yes our apps support Nikon too. For wired Nikon cameras you need Booth.Events (not Wifibooth) and at least iOS 15.2
