is it possible to make 3 big photos on a 4x6 like this sample template shows? in wifi booth. or is the only option the one big square and two small square layout?

At the moment not possible but templates will get improved in the future!

I'm making some tutorials. the templates that can be made with this program are pretty good, but the way the program resizes images to fit logos and different orientation can make it confusing for a beginner.
