Using Hotspot on iPad

Postby schadbou » Fri Nov 18, 2016 11:15 pm

I have the Mobi Pro card (black). I am using a Pentax kx camera. I can not get the app to work by using the hotspot on my iPad. I have followed all of the instructions on the website. If I use a wifi connection I can get the app to work, but where the event will be held I will have no internet connections. I need to be able to get this to work without internet capabilities. How do I do this?

Does your ipad have a sim card slot? (Doesnt matter if it is empty)- this is required on ipad for ipad hotspot to work.

Yes, the hotspot works. I can connect my laptop to the hotspot and it works.

OK good. Did you add your hotspot network to the eyefi mobi card, using the eyfi software on your PC or mac?
Here is a page that shows you how to do that, just click the link halfway down for either windows or mac: https://mobihelp.eyefi.com/hc/en-us/art ... re-Support

OK. When you expect it to be working, do you still see the blue bar at the top on the ipad? Or has it disappeared?
If it has disappeared then that's because you need to hold that connection open with a second device like a printer etc. See the note at the bottom of this page: https://wifibooth.com/article/eyeficonnect-infra/

Yes, the bar at the top is blue and it is connected to second device to keep the network open.

Hmm. OK did you try removing all other networks from the eyefi card, to make sure it is definitely connecting to the ipad?
Also, did you try (just to check) an iPhone or iPod's hotspot -- if so does this work?

I don't have an iPhone or iPod, but we were going to try to use a router connection to see, but I have to wait to do that. I have two networks on the eyefi card. I can try to remove the other network, but that just seems like a lot of work each time I want to use one or the other. I'll let you know if either of the others work. Hopefully I can get it working, would like to fully test the app to see if it will work for an upcoming wedding reception.

Yeah it's definitely a pain to modify the eyefi card. In fact, i'd say eyefi cards are a pain in every case.
But it would be a valuable datapoint for you to know whether removing that other network made it work. If that other network is available where you are testing, there's a good chance the card is connecting to that instead.
