Can't Get App To Recognize Camera With Eye-Fi card.

Postby wayfrae » Sat Aug 08, 2015 1:26 am

I have been trying all night and I just can't figure this out. I have gone through all the help pages to get the pictures to show up on the iPad but the app constantly just says "Trying to Connect to your camera." I can get the Eye-Fi card to upload to my computer just fine but it won't connect to the app. I have checked and double checked my upload key. I am using the Pro X2 Eye-Fi card. Any ideas on what I can try? Should I delete settings.xml and start again?

Hi Wayfrae
Oops, really sorry I didn't see this post until now for some reason.
Sorry that you're having trouble with getting the Eye-Fi card to connect. Eye-Fi cards are indeed tricky, but the Pro X2 definitely should work.

Please power-cycle your ipad and camera, make sure these three things are true, and try again:
1) on the wifi network that the ipad is connected to, no other computer, iphone, or ipad is running any official EyeFi software. This includes the EyeFi apps like Mobi, as well as mac & PC software like the EyeFi Center. What often happens is that the mac/PC client is running on the same wifi network, and it "steals" the connection attempts so they never get to WiFiBooth.
2) the EyeFi card is configured to only connect to the same wifi network as the ipad, and no other networks (ie. it isn't accidentally connecting to the wrong wifi network)
3) if you are using an iOS device like an ipad or an iphone to make the wifi via the Personal Hotspot feature, then make sure that at least one other device is constantly connected to the personal hotspot, and stays connected. That's because iOS only allows incoming connections, when something is already connected or the personal hotspot screen is being displayed.

Any luck?

Hi Carlos
Please post a new topic here in the forums, with the problem you're having. This is more effective than email support: others who have the same problem as you, can see the solution
thanks

Hi Tim,
I have a Nikon camera with an eye-fi card, I'm using an ipad to run your app, I would like to use my phone to tether everything as my location does not have wifi. I can get the eye fi card to upload pictures to my computer and the ipad perfectly fine with the mobi eye-fi app. I have gotten the activation key an inputted it into the wifi booth app. I have tried to make sure nothing else is connected to the phone, I've removed the eye-fi application off my computer so there is no interference with that. But currently, the wifi booth app will not upload pictures/connect to the camera, is literally doing nothing. It's just stuck on "please start the connection on the camera". I've tried to make sure that the eye-fi card is configured so that it connects to my phone tether, but I don't see that as an option anywhere in the advanced options of their site. :o

Tim,
Just an update as well - I've restarted the ipad to make sure the mobi app still isn't interfering, even after killing it, and had the computer off. Have checked that my camera is sending jpeg files (the smallest my camera will do 2992x2000). Still no luck with getting the app to connect to my camera...

Hi jbogg,

Sorry that you are having trouble. Eye-fi is definitely finicky, I wish that eye-fi would allow me access to their API so I could make it a lot easier. They are not allowing any new apps access...

Nevertheless, it should still work. It sounds like you have configured the wifi so that both the eye-fi card and the ipad connect to your iphone's hotspot, is that correct? That would imply that you have a Mobi PRO card, correct?

Assuming that is correct, here is my advice based mainly on the photos you emailed me of your config (I prefer to post on the forum so others can perhaps use the same advice later):

1. Double-check that you entered your eye-fi upload key correctly into the wifibooth. Your key is like e2.........e7
2. Insert the eye-fi card in your computer, wait for it to be detected by eye-fi software, open up the settings from the card, and turn OFF the option "Automatically upload photos .... to Eye-Fi Cloud"
3. Still with the card in the computer, go to the settings of the Mobi Pro card and double check that the ONLY wifi network listed there is the wifi network of your iphone, as that is where you expect the card to connect to. It is quite possible that your home's wifi network is also listed there: delete it for now! Only the iphone's wifi should be listed there.

Try connecting it all up and try wifibooth again. You should see on your iphone that TWO devices are connected, in the blue bar at the top of the iphone (2 hotspot devices)

Hi Tim,
Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I have the mobiPRO card, and I've double checked that my activation number is correct - same as you have put in your note. I only have my phone listed as a network when I connect my card to my computer (the SM-G9...network). And when I set everything back up, my phone has listed two devices connected - the ipad and my printer. Should my eye-fi card be listed there as well? If so, it isn't and still have no idea.....

hi Jbogg,
Yes you should see 3 devices connected to your iphone if you are connecting a printer also (ipad, printer, camera = 3)
Please try getting the camera to connect to the official eyefi mobi app on your iphone, but with your home wifi turned off: unplug your router(s) at home and make sure your computer has no internet access. If you can get the camera connecting to the iphone, and the eyefi mobi app finds it, then it's a key problem. Otherwise if you cannot get the eyefi mobi app to connect in this setup, then there is a configuration problem probably with your eyefi card.

Jbogg are you sure you are instructing the mobi pro card to connect to your iphone? from the screenshots it seems like the card is creating its own wifi network. that's a different (not so good) setup

Hi Tim,
Yes something appears to be still be wrong. I have put the eyefi mobi app onto my phone and photos will upload when I'm connected to wifi, but not when I'm trying to use the phone without wifi/as a hotspot.

Sounds like your eyefi card is not configured to connect to other networks, so it is not connecting to your iphone. Please check its configuration
Go here: https://mobihelp.eyefi.com/hc/en-us/art ... on-Windows
... and scroll down to To configure an Infrastructure Support network
... and add your iphone network to it.

Okay yes, sorry I just realized I put in my phone tethering info in the wrong spot of the eyefi mobi app. But I've now got the eyefi card, my ipad and my printer to be shown as connected to my phone. I've restarted everything, have computer off... and take a couple of pictures and photos still not coming up on Wifi booth app

Using the eyefi mobi app now on my ipad, it says it's not connected to an Eyefi Mobi card. All three devices still say they are tethered to my phone.

Sounds like you are making progress. At the moment nothing comes to mind as to what is wrong but i will think about it... Maybe make real sure the iphone doesnt have the eyefi app running also (it should only be on the ipad). Also sometimes it takes a few looong minutes with 5-10 or more photos before it actually connects...

Hello.

I am still having trouble. I recently posted in the topic to get the upload key. I finally got the upload key and input that correctly into wifibooth. I have ensured that the eyefi is connecting to the correct wifi network and my ipad is on the same network. I have confirmed this network was the only network the eyefi is configured to connect to. I have turned off transferring raw and disabled eyefi cloud.

No matter what wifibooth doesn't seem to be able to connect. I have paid to rent the app to see if it was a paid version issue and it still does not work.

Any advice on this? If not, how would I go about getting a refund as I've already put way too many hours into trying to get this to work.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Peter please try the official eyefi app on the same ipad as wifibooth. Does it work?

Yes, the official app worked. The event has now passed. Took too much effort to get to this to work, ended up tethering over usb with a different photobooth app. I'm hoping I can get a refund. Thanks.

Hi peter sorry you had trouble. In your receipt email from Apple there's a link to the refund application thing. Developers like myself have no mechanism to do it manually.

Hi Rosie
I don't give out my email address, I prefer to keep all communication here on the forum so that others can see it too (so they have a chance to fix their problems without contacting me). I respond to forum posts exactly as fast as email, because as soon as there's a new one, I get an email telling me about it.

Hi Tim,

I have been trying to connect my iPad to an eyefi mobiPRO Card and have done all the steps described above and in several other threads.
My camera (Nikon D810) connects with my Mac when eyefi is inserted in the camera. I've keyed in the upload key in the Wifi Booth App on my iPad, but get stuck with the message "please start the connection on the camera".
No other devices are running Keenai app, we even set up a separate Wifi with no internet connection and only the iPad and eyefi card. Still isn't uploading any photos to the Wifi Booth app on the iPad.
I've restarted all the devices, but no luck.
Any idea what else I can try?
Thank you!
ulli

Hi Ulli sorry it doesnt work for you. Did you try all the steps here? viewtopic.php?f=5&t=362

I also had one report where the upload key wasnt generated and the solution was to uninstall and then reinstall the keenai stuff on the computer

Yes, I followed all the steps in your link. Also uninstalled and reinstalled the Keenai app, but it didn't work either. Anything else you suggest? Thanks!

Uh oh, that's not sounding good.
I'm assuming you have the black eyefi Mobi PRO card right?

I don't have other ideas, but since you already tried a separate wifi network and also tried hard rebooting the ipad, I am wondering if the upload key you got is somehow from another card... could it be that at some point you owned some other eyefi card (or some other card was associated with the same computer where you got the upload key from) ?
