Camera is Portrait but Ipad Display stays Landscape

Postby Tomaswk » Mon Sep 09, 2019 3:52 pm

I set my camera up to take a photo in Portrait mode by turning the camera on its side. But when I sync with wifibooth, the display on the ipad only shows it in landscape mode.

I know in the Setting > Layout & Collages there is an option to set the output to Portrait, but that doesn't change the display until AFTER they take the photo.

Please help. Thanks!

Do you have a fuji camera? These do not support liveview rotation

OK. Can you please check for me that this setting is turned on: Event Settings -> Taking Photos -> Automatically rotate live view

Yes I checked this, and the screen on the app on the Ipad rotates the image when I move the camera, but it doesn't rotate to portrait mode, it just shows the image sideways. Here are two images that show before and after rotation so you can see what I mean.

Which camera is this exactly?
On the Canon cameras like the 750D, there is an autorotate setting on the camera with 3 settings: Off, On (computer), on (camera+computer). The correct setting is on (computer) -- ie NOT the one with the camera icon

I have a Cannon Rebel T6.

I have that autorotate setting option and set it to the one you suggested and it's still the same issue. Thoughts?

It is definitely a camera setting then: that camera works fine.
Can you reset the camera to factory settings?

Ok I reset to factory settings and trying again.

You are saying that it's an issue with the camera that the app doesn't rotate the image on the live view (but it does rotate it correctly when I see it in the gallary).

TESTED (and made sure settings were as you asked for above) > still had the same issue as above.

Thank you for your patience and testing.
Can you please tell me exactly which ipad you have, and the firmware version on your T6?
I apologize that it is acting up for you, I hope to figure it out soon.

Turns out this is a limitation of the camera - the T6i has the feature to send rotation info but the T6 not!
I will have to build in a manual rotation feature.
Will get back to you with a beta build ....

That's tight but hopefully doable. Am already running at 120% - will let you know when there's a beta build you can try

Am working on this now. When I have a beta build ready you'll need to test it and let me know if it works within 24 hours, in order that I can get a round of fixes in before your event on Sept. 22 :)
