Date Range option isn't working right

Postby sashafay » Sun May 24, 2020 11:34 am

Hi, when I choose option with "Date Range" and set for example "Show photos from January 1, 2020 - Today" it's actually going backward: from today instead of starts from older dates and continue with chronological order. I tried this with my iPhone and iPad and with Camera Roll or Google Photos, same result. Is this a bug or I am doing something wrong here? Would you please confirm this from your side as well and let me know what can I do about it? Thanks!

Is there another place to ask for help for this app, since I can't get any response here?

I have also problems with the Date Range with Google Photos. I have taken 10 photos from last week. But if set the Date Range to last week, I see only one photo on Soloslides. There is more than 33000 photos on my Google Photos.

Hi uiski does it work if you turn shuffle off?
Hi sashafay google photos API returns results in order from newest to oldest - not a bug

Thanks Tim for the reply. That sucks but ok, forget about Google photos but I also mentioned that exactly the same behavior with”Camera roll” photos as well: goes from newest to oldest, backwards what it says in the confirmation message.
I don’t see the option here to attach the screenshot otherwise I will show you my App options. Thanks!

Yes - at the moment the app uses the same interface for all sources, which is why the camera roll is also restricted to new-to-old ordering. But it does not have to be like that... i will improve this in a future update

Turns out I found some time this morning even :)
I'll try to get an Apple Testflight build out today, which Apple will approve in a few days' time. Are you up for trying it out?

Thanks Tim! I was able to install your test app, but...no difference still going from newer to older after I selected from May 15 until Today. I tried it in both my iPhone and iPad. Both tested with camera roll option.

Actually wait, nevermind... I see that you added a new switch from new to old and vice versa. Sorry, I am blind LOL
Now when I changed that from Older to Newer it worked as expected, yea!!! Thank you!

P.S. Photo Date still small font, I was hoping you can include that for your next release as you mentioned it in my another post 8-)

Video plays, no problem but question: why there is a countdown for 10 seconds after it finished play? That seems to me little overkill, it should just continue with other pictures/videos normally in my opinion. Thanks!

Yes I did in that latest build - build 58 - did you see it? it is 50% bigger. You have to go to testflight app and hit update to get updates, it is not automatic.
Re popup - if you are using the app passively and you walk in halfway thru a video, you might want to see it again. Also because videos ignore the timer - if a photo is shown for 5 minutes, a 30 second video is only played for 30 seconds

Yes, I’m using latest version 58. I do see now that font a little bigger than before, but still smaller to see on iPad a few feet away. Is there a problem to may the same font as current date as in portrait mode current date a lot larger than photo date. Maybe a different font like yellow will make that more visible on a bright backgrounds.
About video timers, I’m watching 10 seconds video with 30 seconds change to the next and I see timer at the end. Just wondering if possible to have an option to disable it perhaps.
Thank you!

Re photo date, yellow would be ugly but you're right it's hard to see on bright backgrounds. I've increased the gradient opacity & font size again. I'll upload build 59 in a few moments...

Re: disabling the video replay popup... is it really such a hassle to hit the next button right there? I mean if I disabled it, it would be exactly the same as you manually hitting that next button... so it's one extra touch that times-out after 10 seconds.... This app is primarily designed for passive use, meaning, on the wall and you looking at it occasionally. Are you using it like that, or actively (in your lap as a viewer) ? If active, why aren't you using the Google Photos app directly -- is SoloSlides better at something? (genuine questions to figure out how you use the app, no snark)

New font looks great, much much better. Very much appreciated for this!

I am using this for actively, kinda. Using as photo frame with 5 min picture rotation using my iPad that stay on the coffee table in the living room. I thought that would be the main purpose to use this app, not passive for seating on the wall with your iPad. I though Google Photos disabled slideshow a long time ago, but if I ever can figure how to use that I don't mind doing instead the app, but I believe many of us did come here for the slideshow because Google doesn't want to share that with us. Am I wrong with it? :)

Heh you cannot be wrong: users decide how to use any app and they are de facto always right!
Thanks for the feedback and the help I appreciate it.
