Email sent or not sent

Hi.

Just used the app without wifi at an event.

All working good prior to this and several tests with logo etc sent ok from event while on wifi.

Customers have put in their email address after each shot and click the send.

Now connected to wifi I cannot see that any emails have been sent if I look in my gmail sent.

If I take another shot from the same event and send email on wifi it comes through fine.

If I click on the folder icon twice and select 'get email addresses' I get the following error message 'Device cannot send mail - Please check that this device has at least one email account configured and try again'.

I have gmail app on ipad.

Please help as I have hundreds of customers waiting how can I get these to send?

To get the email addresses you need to get the mail app on the ipad hooked up to some email account (does not need to actually send email so can be any account). This annoying limitation has been removed in the next update.

Very strange that the emails have not been sent. You are the second person to tell me about this and it is on my list to go see if i can reproduce the problem. Can you please tell me a few things: what is the wifi setup at the event, ie. was your camera making the wifi and ipad wifi connected to it? Do you have dropbox turned on?
The first time you connected your ipad to the internet later and started wifibooth, did you see the progress indicator at top-right and any indication emails were sending?

In the meantime probably safest to send out the emails manually with the link to the album.

Hi.

So all I did was:

- Only using ipad camera, no other equiment.

- Setup event at home while connected to wifi. It was only configured to send as email attachments, no dropbox or anything else just had a logo on the bottom of the picture and logo in the email. Took some test pictures, entered email address and sent and received all ok.

- Went to event (no wifi), took photos, selected single photo and asked customer each time to enter email address and click arrow to send, then on to next customer etc.

- Got home, connected to wifi and waited. Nothing appeared to happen, no progress indicator. Closed app and reopened but still nothing.

I then took another photo in the same event and that single image was sent and received ok. All the ones at the event remain unsent as I cannot see then in gmail sent?

Very strange.

Any advice please?

This sounds like a bug in wifibooth. I apologize for the inconvenience. I was already planning to investigate this area of the code for the next (big v4) update, but i'll prioritize this and write back here.

Hi there,
Just reporting back - I believe I found the issue, it is indeed a bug in wifibooth. I apologize for this.
The issue is likely to occur more often when sending via a gmail account. The problem is that the gmail account requires a login, but the logic that handles the email sending thinks it has succeeded sending the email (wrong).
This has been fixed in the next update, which i'm working very hard to get out as soon as possible.

If you're doing more events before v4 is released (hopefully soon in July), then I highly recommend you use Dropbox instead of attaching the photos to the email directly, because this bug should not happen with offline Dropbox emails.

Just returned home from an event. Reconnected to WiFi and I cannot tell if the emails were sent. I have the latest version of wifibooth. How do I know if they were sent

First, check if they are waiting inside wifibooth: on the first screen (event picker screen), see if there are waiting items -- touch that table and see in the popup if they are emails that are waiting.
If not then check your sent emails folder

Hi Tim,
The front page shows no files waiting to upload- clicking the table is blank. There are no emails sent in my sent folder. The test email worked multiple times. I was really relying on this feature to work.

I've tested the feature extensively, and haven't heard anyone else complaining about any failures. Lots of other people are definitely using it.
What's the email provider you are using -- gmail/google?
Are you sending images as attachment, or dropbox link? (please double-check in the email settings of event)

I really didn’t think this was going to occur. I know you worked out the kinks with it. It worked flawlessly during testing. I’m using gmail and sending as attachment. I don’t want to use Dropbox because I don’t want them to see each others photos.
I also wanted to manually send them the full size version of the photos ( remember we discussed having it auto do it one day possibly)

It’s going to be a mess trying to align the email to the correct person, I was going to let the auto sent ones be my guide.

It also saved 2 copies of the strip which I haven’t noticed it doing before.

A couple more questions, hopefully we can figure out what is causing this for you...
First, obvious but important to check: did the event settings -> email -> email setting get somehow reset to "Only Save" ? Please verify it is "as attachment" etc
Next, when you tested it out, did you try sending an actual photo from the iPad that was taken? I'm wondering if somehow the photos on the iPad are super huge and cannot be emailed (should definitely not be the case with gmail). What happens if you open the event now and send one to yourself?

Thanks for the time. The email is still set to attachment. My test photos were sent with an image. I can forward it to you if you like. If I go into wifibooth, gallery, and email photo it send right away correctly.

Hmm if it is 100% sending correctly during testing with real images, but 0% during your event (no emails went out at all, right?), then that points to the wifi/internet connection setup being different during the event.
At the event, how was your ipad having internet access? And, was BluePrint involved?
Finally, do you have autopilot turned on to full for that event?

So, the collage is set to “full”

During the event I have the camera connected to the iPad and the printer connected to blueprint. The prints auto print and I offer them their pictures emailed as well.

OK so if you are using BluePrint, then unless you specifically told BluePrint NOT to share internet by default the emails are flowing thru BluePrint to get out.
Do you remember if you had wifibooth send a test email specifically while in this setup (connected to blueprint) ?

I’m not sure that I had blue print connected, maybe only the camera. I can’t recall. I am going to use blue print for all of my events. How do I get around this problem and is there anyway to resend the emails from yesterday.

Sorry there's no way to resend emails - but in the future i'm going to make it easier to match which email addresses went with which photos. Possibly even in the next major update... it's been on the list for awhile.
If I were you, i'd either:
-> make sure after getting everything connected at the event (including blueprint), to send a real email of a photo in the gallery and make sure you receive it
OR
-> on the blueprint side, once sharing, use the switch on the sharing screen to turn OFF sharing internet to wifibooth. This will cause Wifibooth to queue the emails on the ipad. This is safer, because this queue is persistent: if something goes wrong and email cannot be sent, it'll stick around until it can. This includes not only the ipad being offline, but also if your gmail credentials/token need refreshing etc

Okay Tim, I will give option 2 a shot the next time I have the equipment setup. I will follow up on this thread once I do. I don’t think option 1 is applicable because I’m not connected to internet only using the dslr’s wifi signal to connect camera.

While I have your attention, is there any thought into allowing wifibooth to send the photos through text message. I’ve seen this with other setups and it could simplify the whole process and promote social media influence

I don't think you've understood.
While you're connected to your DSLR via wifi and BluePrint via Bluetooth, Wifibooth *is* connected to the internet: it is using that Bluetooth connection to send emails, facebook/dropbox uploads etc, through BluePrint. Option 2 in my previous post is for you to stop doing that, by telling BluePrint not to allow Wifibooth to use that bluetooth link for internet sharing. Option 1 is to test it after it is set up

Yes, sending photos via SMS/MMS is fully supported & operational. That's the Twilio settings page. You need to create a Twilio account, assign a phone number to it, and input the credentials into Wifibooth. I'm actually writing a help article for that very soon. Like emaill, this is also supported via bluetooth to BluePrint, and offline (for later sending)

I just had a thought in the shower about how I could improve what I think is happening in your case (which is hopefully quite rare - a failure on the blueprint side): I'm hoping I can get BluePrint to signal back to Wifibooth that a particular email/photo pair failed, so that wifibooth can re-enqueue it for later. In other words, if it fails on the BluePrint side, wifibooth would get to it later.

Hey Tim,

Another thing that I just thought of, I want my guests to enter their email so I select force email. However a few requests decline and so they would hit the x button. This would delete their photos and they wouldn’t print. So I started to enter ,y email address if they declined but it slowed the line and. Few photos were lost. Maybe hitting the x would or should just delete the email and not the whole process.
